Slow Cooker Applesauce with no added sugar is a healthy household staple that is simple, delicious and easy to make homemade! {gluten free, vegan}
Lately I have been experimenting with slow cooker recipes. I love the ease of using the slow cooker for busy weeknight meals, waking up to a warm breakfast and even for desserts! While a slow cooker is a time saver in the kitchen for cooking easy recipes, it is also key for cooking household basics. A slow cooker offers an easy option for cooking simple pantry staples, such as beans, steel cut oatmeal, and applesauce, all from scratch with very little effort. Don’t have a slow cooker at home? Looking to upgrade your slow cooker? No problem! Today I’m giving one away to a lucky reader…see below for entry details!
This apple season, our slow cooker has been getting quite a workout making all natural Slow Cooker Applesauce from scratch! This is one of the easiest recipes that yields such an amazing and delicious result.
You always hear people say that homemade is better than store-bought, which is so true in the case of this applesauce. It is not even a fair comparison really! Homemade Slow Cooker Applesauce is rich and flavorful and tastes like fresh apples picked from the apple orchard. I like to use fresh SweeTango apples, but you can use any variety or combination that you like. To prepare the apples for the slow cooker, I used an apple corer to slice and core the apples, and then peeled the slices. Next simply toss them in the slow cooker with some liquid and lemon juice (to keep from browning…this is optional and I often make without!) and some spices, if desired. Then let the slow cooker do all the work! The result is a simple, easy homemade Slow Cooker Applesauce made with no added sugar!
- 3 pounds sliced, cored and peeled apples, any variety
- ½ cup water
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice (optional)
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
- Combine apples, water, lemon juice and cinnamon (if using) in slow cooker. Cook on low for 6 hours.

This is my first slow cooker, and I found it very intuitive and easy to use. The sleek, modern design is simple to use. A favorite in our house is pork shops or country style pork ribs covered with onions – after that has cooked for a couple of hours, I top it with sauerkraut and some caraway seeds and cook for a while longer till the pork is tender and falling off the bone. As a matter of fact, we always serve it with applesauce on the side. Love sauerkraut, pork and applesauce together! It brings me back to my childhood.
